And ruins what otherwise would have been a great book. WHY do authors do this?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! I am so angry. This book had a great heroine, Angelica.

She is sort of a woman outside her time.

She doesn't want kids or marriage. She wants freedom to what she chooses, to write gothic horror stories and play "unfashionable" music. And of course, a girl of her breeding must follow the rules and act properly so she can marry properly and have heirs. She ends up catching the Duke of Burnrath's eye. A vampire, who doesn't care about the rules. I like that the vampirism in this wasn't portrayed as "evil. There were no hysterics about the heroine being bitten by the hero like you find a lot.

I really had no issues and was set to give this four stars. Angelica overhears a conversation and assumes some things and then Ian assumes some things based on her behavior after she overhears the conversation. Why could they not just talk things through. They are married for freaking sakes!! All they had to do was have a discussion. But instead, secrets, withholding, acting stupid and immature. The mother was really annoying too and caused more misunderstandings to happen by giving really shitty advice to her inexperienced and naive daughter.

There was a side plot with another vampire plotting against Ian and a vampire hunter. I'm so disappointed. I really thought this was going to be a winner for sure. But I can't take The Big Misunderstanding that drags out.

Ruins it every time! View all 13 comments.

Nov 29, Carmen rated it it was amazing Recommends it for: Romance fans. Shelves: romance , rtbr , traditionally-published , five-romance-stars , american-author , fiction , she-says , published She couldn't hold back a smile as she remembered him laughing with her on his sofa when she told him about her ghost stories. Resolutely she pushed back the memories. It would not at all do to have warm feelings for this man.

Vampire or no, he was still a man and as such he represented the end to her freedom. This book was great!!! Cute, sweet, fluffy, cheesy, and so romantic.

  8. I really enjoyed it. Angelica does not want to get married to some bore who will spend her inheritance, stifle her spirit, She couldn't hold back a smile as she remembered him laughing with her on his sofa when she told him about her ghost stories. Angelica does not want to get married to some bore who will spend her inheritance, stifle her spirit, and want her to have children.

She wants to be a gothic authoress like Mary Shelley! She writes exciting stories about ghosts, vampires and witches. But her parents are upset with her unladylike ways and determined to marry her off to the highest-ranking man they can. Ian Ashton, Duke of Burnrath, is a year-old vampire.

He is the Lord Vampire of London. He adores passing as a mortal and living in high society, but he has never taken a wife. All that changes when he finds himself intrigued by the headstrong, feminist, fearless Angelica. They dance together and banter with each other. Then, late one night, Ian hears an intruder in his house.

    A young street urchin.

Ian quickly makes him his next meal - only to find when sinking his fangs into dinner that the street urchin is really Angelica in disguise! His secret exposed, he knows there's only one solution: marry Angelica and save both of their reputations I loved this book. OMG, so cheesy. But sweet and romantic, with a good heart and a sense of humor, I enjoyed it immensely. Book worship. Ann, like many authors, inserts herself into this novel by making Angelica a budding gothic author.

Angelica is a writer and she loves books. Literature was a precious gift. One shouldn't have to hide it from others. The written word should be revered and shared by all, no matter their sex or station in life. Her gaze strayed back to the fireplace, rage curling in her belly at the destruction of a precious book. Angelica has a "Beauty and the Beast" moment when she gets a gander at Ian's library: Her breath caught suddenly, and a thrill rushed through her body at the vast array of books in the mammoth chamber.

The meager light from the windows gleamed on the high shelves and wheeled ladder. Gas lamps stood in every corner of the room, and two overstuffed wingback chairs sat companionably before an elaborate carved marble fireplace. With such light, one could read all night long if she desired.
